New Works

Periscope contemporary design Gallery, Tel Aviv, Israel | 1998

30 bookstands, 5 shelves, 4 legs, 3 sizes, 2 colors, 1 cut.
Exhibited at the Periscope contemporary design Gallery, Tel Aviv.

The displayed bookstands – fifteen basic solid boxes furnished with shelves, were painted with white primer and then dipped in black paint in the front. Then the closed boxes were sawed apart at random. In order to examine the significance of the minor changes between components: one act of sawing, two colors of paint, three different sizes, four legs for support, and five shelves. The shapes seemed almost identical, with small elementary variations. The disparate elements required careful discretion in mounting the project as whole. “Every exhibition is a laboratory for the ideas on my agenda. In this case I was interested in examining rhythm and diversity, like meaningless sounds which become music once you arrange them in particular sequence”.
