Installation Design

Two libraries & two benches that feature rhythmic repetition of components.

“The different sensations one experiences in the spaces of the two installations arise from being surrounded by books in one case, and surrounding the books in other. One of the features of the libraries is the rhythmic repetition of their components-books and shelves. Just as in the arrangements and matching of musical notes, the objects containing the books and the repetitions have an almost emotional significance for de Lange. The book symbolizes and defies the annihilation and violation of books. It is timeless asset, therefore de Lange uses the clichés of a “quantitative” library as compared to a library that offers a “qualitative” experience. A mix library comprising books about a variety of subjects by various authors and publishers is comparable to seating different people next to each other on a bench. The library or the “arrangements of contents” also reflects his\her personality”.
